Rumour Has It . . . . and other important information!

And one final song lyric themed e-mail ~

Just ’cause I said it, it don’t mean that I meant it,
People say crazy things,

Just ’cause I said it, don’t mean that I meant it,
Just ’cause you heard it,
Rumour has it, rumour,

Rumour has it we will have a special guest at our monthly booster meeting, this Tuesday, April 3rd, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.  The word on the street is Mr. Brett Myer, recently named JCHS Director of Bands, will be at our meeting.  Please make every effort to attend and welcome Mr. Myer to Jay Band.

In baseball, they’d call it a sweep.  In Jay Band, you just call it taking care of business!  Congratulations to the Concert Band, Symphonic/Wind Band and the Symphonic Percussion Ensemble on their “I” ratings at the MSHSAA District Music Festival.  You have shown perseverance this school year and your hard work was recognized this weekend.  We are very proud of you and your accomplishments.

Clang, clang, clang” went the trolley
“Ding, ding, ding” went the bells . . .

There will be an all percussion concert this Thursday, April 5th, 2012 at the Miller Center.  This will include ensembles and solos from the high school Jay Band percussion members.  Please ask your student for more information as it is made available to them by Mr. Sestak.

And all that Jazz . . .

Spaghetti & Jazz will be held on Tuesday, April 10th with serving from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. I will be in the band room on Tuesday morning, April 3rd before 1st block to collect money, ticket stubs and unsold tickets. Please send these with your student.

I will need people to help serve from 4:45 until 6:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. If you could do one of these shifts, please reply to this e-mail. I will send out a volunteer list at the end of next week.

Red Camaro Raffle ~ THE car was on display at Hy-Vee today and again tonight in downtown Jefferson City at the Cruisin’ for MDA monthly car show.  Thank you to Jay Band Booster President Greg Kindle for hawking tickets in the middle of High Street and Madison tonight.  Thank you to all the volunteers that promoted this raffle today!  The car will be on the K-Mart parking lot on Saturday, April 14th and on Saturday, April 28th.  It will also make it’s final appearance before the big draw at next month’s Cruisin’ for MDA on Saturday, April 28th in downtown Jefferson City.   Purchase your raffle ticket today!

And finally, THANK YOU to everyone that volunteered at this weekend’s MSHSAA District Music Festival.  It was our mission to represent Jefferson City High School in the best way possible and I think that we accomplished this task.  I especially want to thank the Friday daytime volunteers for helping us achieve the goal of being a good guest at Simonsen and causing the least amount of disruption to their school day possible.

Now it’s time to say good night

Red Camaro

I saw a red camaro today
It turned my head around it made me think

Rascal Flats sang it, but you can see it!  The Red Camaro that the Jay Band is raffling off (ours doesn’t have a T top) will be on display at Hy-Vee on Truman Blvd this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Tickets will be available for purchase and you can turn in any ticket money you might have.  If you have tickets in your possession that you are not going to sell, please turn them in on Saturday.  We have people wanting more tickets but we don’t have any in inventory to hand-out.  Please help us out by turning in tickets and/or money this Saturday at Hy-Vee!

If you are busy working the MSHSAA Music Contests on Saturday, you can still see the Red Camaro.  It will be on display in downtown Jefferson City on Saturday night for the Cruisin’ for MDA event.  The time is 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on High Street.  This is the largest car show in Jefferson City and there will be music supplied by COOL 97.5 and food sold by the Jefferson City Host Lions Club.

Remember, the drawing will be here soon ~ right before summer.  May 3rd, 2012 at the Missouri State Capitol during the band’s concert.  Don’t miss out on your chance to win this great car.  Your odds are better than tomorrow night’s Mega Millions drawing!

And the Beat Goes On . . . a FINAL update for volunteers and other MSHSAA district tidbits . . .

Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain . . .

This will be the FINAL e-mail pertaining to MSHSAA District music festival this weekend.

First, the updated volunteer sheet is attached.  You will notice that there are still some open spots that need to be filled.  If you can help, even for a partial shift, please let me know!  I will be at Simonsen all day tomorrow but I will be able to access this e-mail account.  Thank you to everyone that stepped up to fill spots this week.  It is really appreciated.

Second, Concert Band performs first thing tomorrow (Friday) morning.  The students are to be in the high school band room before 7:30 a.m. DRESSED in their full concert uniform.  A bus will transport them to Simonsen for their performance.  Make sure your student takes clothes to change into after they return to the high school unless they want it to be a formal Friday!

There will be a Jay Band concession stand in the lower level of Simonsen starting at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and all day on Saturday.  Drinks, snacks and lunch items will be available.

Finally, and most importantly, best of luck to all the students performing with the ensembles and solos.  We are very proud of you and your accomplishments.  Congratulations!

Thank you for your patience and we’ll see you this weekend supporting the Jay Band students!
