2012 Home Show Work Schedule & Food List

The 2012 HBA Home Show is next weekend, February 17th -19th, at the YMCA on Ellis. This is a fundraiser for our group and historically earns us between $1750.00 and $2000.00.

Attached, please find the work schedule for concession stand. Also included in this document is the list of people that signed up to bring brownies, cookies or rice krispie treats. As Sharon indicated at the meeting, please make sure these items are delivered to her or to the show by Friday or early Saturday morning.

Please remember to wear a Jay Band shirt to get into the home show for free to work in the booth. Please be sure to arrive a few minutes early and park at the Knights of Columbus or Midland Oil and catch a shuttle to the Y. Thank you to everyone who has or is donating taco soup, brownies, cookies, time, labor, etc. to the event. We appreciate your time and help!

Recap of last night’s meeting

The monthly meeting of the Jay Band Boosters was held last night at the high school.  I will try and highlight the information shared.

Remember to utilize the SCRIP program!

Jazz Competitions and Schedule
Attached, please find the schedule for this Saturday’s Jazz Competition in Cape Girardeau, MO.  It is for both Jazz 1 and Jazz 2.  Both bands will complete again on Saturday, February 25th in Warrensburg, MO at the UCM competition.  Good luck!

Upcoming Pep Band performances
The following bands will perform pep music at select home basketball games.  Jeans and a Jays t-shirt or Jay Band t-shirt is appropriate for these performances.

HBA Home Show ~ February 17th-19th
The Jay Band provides concessions at the annual HBA Home Show.  This is a fundraiser for the Jay Band.  If you are interested in helping, please contact Sharon Knorr at knorr601@aol.com.

Chicago Heritage Trip ~ March 2012
All payments for the Chicago Heritage trip are now due.  This includes the chaperone fees.  If you haven’t done so already, please send in your payment to Mr. Steve Eubanks as soon as possible.

We are also working on getting an updated performance schedule for Saturday, 3/17/12, that includes the times for the concert band students.

MSHSAA District Music Festival ~ March 30th and 31st
The district 13 festival will again be hosted by Jefferson City High School and held at the Miller Performing Arts Center and Simonsen 9th Grade Center.  Large group instrumentals will be held on Friday and small groups and individual contests will be held on Saturday.  Please mark this important event on your calendar.  Volunteers for concession stand help and door monitors will be requested closer to the date.

All Percussion Concert ~ Thursday, April 5th, 2012
Mark your calendars now for an all percussion concert that will be held on Thursday, April 5th, 2012 at the Miller Center.  This will include ensembles from both middle schools along with the high school Jay Band percussion members.

Spaghetti and Jazz ~ Tuesday, April 10th, 2012
The annual Spaghetti and Jazz event will be held on Tuesday, April 10th, 2012 at the high school.  Please save the date and plan on inviting friends, neighbors and co-workers to this fun, casual event!

Middle School Music Festival ~ April 14th, 2012
The Middle School Music Festival will once again be hosted by Jefferson City at Lewis & Clark Middle School.  This festival includes members of orchestra, band and the vocal music departments.  Please save the date!

Red Camaro Raffle ~ IMPORTANT
The Red Camaro raffle has sold just over 1000 tickets to this point.  We have to sell a minimum of 1750 tickets to draw for the car.  PLEASE help out the future of the Jay Band program and sell the tickets that you have in your possession and contact us if you need more or need to turn in money.  If everyone sells the tickets they have checked out, it will be a success.  Please make a point to get your tickets sold in the next few weeks.  If you need to contact us, you can reply to this e-mail to make it easy!   The committee will be selling tickets at the HBA Home Show and at ALL Jay Band events.   Thank you in advance for your help with this important fundraiser.

Band Spectacular ~ 2012 Home Show Information

There has been some confusion on the start time of Sunday’s Band Spectacular.  It will start promptly at 2:00 p.m. in Fleming Field House at the high school!

Attached, please find information for the 2012 HBA Home Show.  The Jay Band has run the concession stand at this even the past few years and it is a nice source of revenue for the band.  Please read through the document and contact Sharon Knorr if you’d like to volunteer to help.  Sharon will be at the monthly Jay Band Booster meeting on Tuesday, February 7th and will have sign-up sheets, etc.  knorr601@aol.com

Band Update ~ Jazz Festival 2/4/12

Pep Band Schedule
The following bands will perform pep music at the following home basketball games:

1/31/12 – Concert Band
2/9/12 – Wind Ensemble
2/16/12 – Wind Ensemble
2/17/12 – Concert Band

Report times and specifics will be communicated to the students in class.

Jazz 1 will compete in the MU/Rock Bridge Jazz Festival this Saturday, 2/4/12.

Band Spectacular ~ Sunday, 2/5/12 ~ 2:00 p.m. at the high school
It seems that a tradition of Super Bowl Sunday is the annual Jay Band Spectacular.  It will be held this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Fleming Field House at the high school.  The report time for students is 1:00 p.m. and the dress is concert uniform.

Red Camaro Raffle ticket money can be turned in at this event.  There will be a table in the lobby for collection and to get additional tickets.  Spirit items will also be available for purchase on Sunday.

Jay Band Booster Meeting ~ Tuesday, 2/7/12 ~ 7:00 p.m. at the high school
Please plan to attend the monthly meeting of the Jay Band boosters on Tuesday, 2/7/12, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.  One of the items on the agenda will be the upcoming Home Show concession stand fundraiser.

Chicago Heritage Trip ~ March 2012

Thank you for the great attendance at last night’s meeting. This e-mail should summarize what was covered by Mrs. Ridgeway and Mr. Dodson.

Attached, please find two documents.

The first will provide you a detailed cost of the trip. The student cost is $332.00 and the chaperon cost is $451.00.

The second attachment is the itinerary. Please note that the pretrip rehearsal schedule on Wednesday, March 14th will probably be adjusted so that students can spend more time with their families before leaving for the Chicago. There might be some other minor adjustments to the itinerary based on the contest performance. The schedule reflects the students competing on Saturday. This could possibly be moved to Friday evening. A final itinerary will be available in mid-February. Please take special note of the items highlighted in yellow. These are meals that the district has committed to provide at no additional cost to the students.

At the meeting, envelopes were given to each family reflecting the amount of money credited to their student’s account for the trip. If you were not at the meeting, these envelopes will be distributed during band class today. Please review the amount. If you have any questions about the amount, please contact Mr. Eubanks. IMPORTANT: Sign the form, indicate if your student will be going on the Chicago trip and return to Mr. Eubanks as soon as possible.

The final trip payment is due by February 1st, 2012. Please send a check for the balance your student owes by this date to Mr. Eubanks.

It was apparent at tonight’s meeting that the Jefferson City High School administration is committed to our students and the Jay Band program. Their desire is that this trip be one of the best experiences for the students, without causing a financial hardship on the families.

Jay Band Updates ~ 1/19/12 meeting at the high school

  • Reminder:  The high school administration has requested a meeting with Jay Band parents tomorrow, Thursday, January 19th, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The March trip will be discussed in detail.  Please plan to attend this important meeting.

  • Chicken Dinner Fundraiser at the Eagles ~ Friday, January 27th, 2012 ~ 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Packets of tickets were sent home last week with the students.  Each student received 4 tickets.  Tickets are $10.00 in advance or $11.00 at the door.  Ticket money and any unsold tickets are due now to the band office.  Please make sure your student gets these turned in as soon as possible.  You can also turn this in at tomorrow night’s meeting to either Laura Anderson or Michelle Cartee.

The menu is fried chicken, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, bread, ice cream and a drink.

Red Camaro Raffle

There will be a meeting on Thursday, 1/12/12 at 6:30 p.m. at Diane Gillespie’s home, 1726 Hayselton Drive to discuss an action plan for the next few months for the Red Camaro Raffle.  Anyone interested is welcome to attend and share your ideas.

Jay Band will be selling Red Camaro Raffle tickets at the Girls and Boys Basketball home games.  The schedule is listed below along with a band parent that has signed-up to sell the tickets.  If there is a blank, please check your schedule and let Diane if you’d be willing to sell the tickets at the table in the lobby.
